lab 1:
The Apple iPod and the Sony Walkman are similar in the sense that their creation both derived from the human centred approach that worked to serve the needs of people. In the physial structure that can be seen in the iPod's flexibly engineered earbuds and the sony walkman's skull shaped headphones allow comfort and familiarity with usage of the device. It was fited for the human ear.
The differences between them physically definately stand out in the functionality and the shape. The iPod is thin and slender. Its edges are smooth and it runs on an operating system. the click wheel is an example of functionality convergence which also serves a an accessibility feature for those who have issues with digit articulaton and sensibility issues. That sheds a light on the down side of a sony walkman. There are far more buttons than the iPod and they are single finctions that one must push the button all the way down to accomplish a mison. This would be quite difficult for someone with multiple sclerosiswhere motor skills have deteriorated. The design of it is not as aesthetically pleasing as the Apple iPod and it does not run on any operating system of any sort. The Apple iPod is made of material that is definately more environmentally accomodating than that of the early sony walkman models. The iPod plays albums in vast volumes where as the Walkman can only play one tape/album at a time. the function is linear than that of the ipod where you can jump form one album to the next without the worry of any malfunctions (atleast not as much compared to the sony walkman). The interface of the iPod is definately far superior to that of the 1970's model of the Sony Walkman. Ofcourse in my humble opinion I don't think its fair to compare both products besause there is such a huge gap between the manufacturing date. Technology has come so far that this gap is rediculous to disregard.
